Why is Foodee organizing this fundraiser?

We are partnering with local organizations in Canada and the US to feed those most in need and support our local restaurants. 


Our goals:


1. Support the local food economy


COVID-19 has had an enormous toll on the local economy and disproportionately impacted local businesses. These businesses, including your favorite local restaurants, are the backbones of our communities. Every dollar we spend within the local economy returns three times the amount of income back to our communities. 



2. Fight hunger


The economic downturn caused by COVID-19 has increased food insecurity significantly. Among our communities, 1 in 7 can not access or secure adequate food due to financial constraints. 

Over 4.5 million Canadians and 54 million Americans are experiencing food insecurity during the pandemic. Fighting hunger and worrying about their next meal is a day-to-day challenge.



Frequently Asked Questions


How are donations managed?

All donations will be used to order meals through Foodee’s restaurant ordering platform. Local restaurants will receive and accept orders, and prepare them for pickup. Foodee’s operational team will coordinate with our charity partners to ensure the pickup time is optimal for meal distribution. 

 

Is Foodee taking a fee to manage orders?

Foodee is waiving all operational and service fees associated with placing an order through the platform. This ensures all donations, excluding the fundraising fee, go towards buying meals from local restaurants for those in need. We do our best to make sure every dollar donated goes to our restaurants to prepare meals for distribution. 

 

Can I get a tax receipt for my donation?

As Foodee is not a tax-exempt organization, we cannot provide tax receipts for your donation. However, upon request, we will do our best to provide an in-kind / gift receipt or certificate of acknowledgement from our charity partners. We will also post and share updates on meals distributed as we process donations and place orders with restaurants.

 

Is there an end date for this fundraiser?

We have not set a fundraiser end date at this time. Our goal is to collect donations and make as much of an impact as possible during the holidays. If there is opportunity, we will continue fundraising in 2021 and will share an update. 

 

Will all donations go towards purchasing and providing meals?

There is a 2.99% fee applied on donations from our fundraising partner, Giving Fuel.
